Who We Are
Phydeaux is a trio of independently owned pet supply stores located in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Cary, NC. We pride ourselves on having an exceptionally knowledgeable staff that can answer all kinds of questions. We have the largest selection of premium quality dog, cat, bird, and small animal supplies in the Triangle, all with competitive prices. We do not sell any live animals.
What We Do
Phydeaux is committed to working towards ending pet overpopulation. As a result, we have not, do not, and will never sell live animals of any kind. We support, in one way or another, most local animals rescue groups. If you're looking for a new family member, we strongly encourage you to check with your local animal shelter, or rescue groups, some of which can be found in our links section on our front page. Phydeaux is committed to providing support whenever possible for all types of animal rescues.
Phydeaux is committed to keeping your pets safe and healthy. We personally choose every product that we carry and will not carry products that we do not deem to be 1) Safe 2) Healthy or 3) Excellent quality. We are constantly looking for new products to add to our rapidly growing line, so if you know of one that we should carry, please let us know. As far as foods and treats go, we have strict guidelines as to what we will and will not carry. We only sell the healthiest foods and treats that are available on the market today. Most "mainstream" foods that are available in grocery stores, or "big box" stores are not what we consider acceptable, so you will not find most of these foods in our store. Just a few of our criteria for foods and treats include not selling things that include: any kind of by-product, wheat, corn, soy, BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin.

History
Phydeaux started as a tiny shop in downtown Carrboro in the fall of 2002. We expanded in that original building twice, before we outgrew it in 2008. In 2008 we moved to a much larger location just across town in Chapel Hill. We added a downtown Raleigh location, in Seaboard Station, late 2010. We expanded our Chapel Hill store in 2012, and then we opened our Cary store in September of 2014. In 2015, we moved our Raleigh location to our first Phydeaux-owned building, the corner of Atlantic and Six Forks Ave, and we've been growing ever since! We're proud to have been chosen as the Triangle's favorite pet supply stores for the past 16 years as per the Independent Weekly's annual Best of the Triangle survey. We've been listed in the Inc. 5000 for the past five years as one of the 5000 fastest-growing, privately-owned companies in the US. Today, Phydeaux has 35 full-time employees across all three locations.
Meet the Owner and Top Dog
Frank Papa
In 2002, Frank had just finished a successful career as a software developer. One day, after his cat, Teddy, escaped his house through a broken window screen, he realized that there might be a need for a full-service pet supply store in the Chapel Hill area. He rented a tiny storefront in downtown Carrboro and proceeded to learn all the nuts and bolts of running a store, including how to use a cash register, how to order inventory, how to fix and clean just about everything, and most importantly, how to help customers with their pet questions. Phydeaux was a one person operation for several years until Frank hired his first employee.
Frank continues to own and manage Phydeaux today. He lives just outside of Carrboro, with his wife, Jade, and their cat, Kissyboots. When not working, Frank can usually be found on the campus of North Carolina State University where he's an undergraduate studying genetics.
